The individual contributors to these papers tell the story of the dedicated and detailed efforts to understand the work of previous generations on the Acropolis and then to restore the buildings as nearly as possible to their original architectural state. This is the first publication in English of the details of the astounding 35-year campaign of restoration of the ancient buildings of the Athenian Acropolis, published to mark the completion of the restoration, with papers written by the distinguished professionals responsible for research and restoration of these magnificent buildings.
